At the request of U.S. Army SOCOM elements, we revisited the design of the EBNS to make it faster and lighter. It still uses the same trusted and proven IBNS for its base, but we shortened the pole and engineered an all-clip suspension system to hang the fly from the pole reducing the amount of material involved. This eliminated several inches of unusable dead space that were created at the ridge of the original EBNS. This also greatly reduces wind drag in inclement weather. The new design still has doors on either side but eliminates the vestibules because they were described to us as “less important than trail weight” by the end users. Since the new fly design is so simple and light, we designed a way to attach the fly to the body of the BedNet using simple toggles so that the Armadillo could be stored with the two still attached. This drastically reduces set-up and pack-up time. So in short, we have developed a new version of a trusted product that weighs one third less, packs up faster and smaller, and costs less. We heard that soldiers were taking the bednets out into the field, so we made them into a full tent. The Enhanced Bednet System features a full fly with two doors and two vestibules. The back door vestibule is designed to fit a fully loaded pack underneath the door. The bednet is permethrin treated for insect protection. Weather protected mesh vents allow air to move through the tent to increase ventilation. In order to get the best ventilation, place the webbing loops of the fly on the top of the included stakes. The Improved Bednet System forms the foundation of this tent, so it can be used without the other parts as an insect barrier.
